Fremont - Each year, the United Way of Sandusky County awards one graduating senior from each high school in Sandusky County with a Senior Volunteer Award and a monetary gift.   Students are nominated by their school leadership and are recognized for their volunteer activities in both their school and the community.  The 2011 Senior Volunteer Award recipients are:

The United Way of Sandusky County has named Dale and Kay E. Reiter as the 2013 Campaign Chairs

Dale recently retired from Warner Mechanical Corporation after 35 years of service in the plumber and pipefitting trade. He supervised many mechanical construction projects for businesses throughout North West Ohio, including Fifth-Third Stadium, the home of the Toledo Mud Hens. Dale has had the opportunity to supervise and teach many apprentices throughout professional career. Dale now enjoys golfing along with following our grandchildren’s many sport events.

Kay is the Executive Director for Sandusky County Economic Development Corporation. Prior to joining SCEDC over 10 years ago, she was the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Sandusky County. Kay’s favorite pass time is volunteering throughout Sandusky County with community and church activities. She enjoys cooking and participating in the pie baking competition at the Sandusky County Fair!

Dale and Kay are excited to assume responsibility for guiding the fundraising, volunteering and awareness efforts of the United Way during the 2013 campaign. As a team, the Reiters will lead the upcoming campaign toward the $825,000.00 goal which will benefit 28 local Funded Programs as well as the initiatives of the United Way of Sandusky County

Proud Sandusky County residents, the Reiters have been active volunteers with various organizations. Dale has been a volunteer for multiple community projects that include recent fundraising projects for Sandusky County Positive People, Memorial Health Systems - “Cookin Men” , Camp Fire of Sandusky County , Downtown Fremont, Inc. Holiday DeLights, Sacred Heart Parish Annual Parish Festival, and the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life . Kay currently serves on multiple boards both professionally and for community service. Her commitments include Terra State Community College Board of Trustees, Ohio Economic Development Association Board, Sandusky County Positive People Inc. Board, Goodwill Industries Board, T.R.I.P.S. Advisory Board. Sandusky County Transportation Improvement District Board, Tiffin University School of Business Executive Board, and Eucharistic Minister - Sacred Heart Parish.

“The Board of Trustees and I are honored to have Dale and Kay leading this year’s campaign.” said Abby Slemmer, Executive Director of United Way of Sandusky County. “Their commitment to this community is admirable and exemplifies what United Way is all about. I am excited to work alongside of them to spread the word about the impact that giving to United Way has on the community,” she added.

United Way maintains an active role throughout the community to “help you help your neighbors” in Sandusky County. The annual campaign currently helps support 28 Funded Programs through 23 different agencies. Theses Funded Programs offer services to Sandusky County residents in the areas of Safety and Basic Needs, Health, and Education.

The 2013 campaign will kick off with a reception on September 24 at Chateau Tebeau Winery in Helena. All community members are invited to attend, tickets must be purchased by Friday, September 20.

What is a Pacesetter?  The campaign pacesetters are companies that elect to run their United Way campaign prior to the public campaign kick off.  These companies are not required to meet goals or donate more than they have in previous years.  The successful campaigns of these organizations are combined together and used throughout the public to “set the pace” for the upcoming campaign and excite the general public!

The United Way of Sandusky County honored its top 2012 campaign contributors and volunteers at the annual Awards Celebration.

Festivities took place at Fremont Middle School where the top honoree for the evening was Sandusky County Commissioner Terry Thatcher. Thatcher received the honorable Mary Recktenwald Award which was established in memory of long time Sandusky County volunteer Mary Recktenwald. The award recognizes a Sandusky County resident who has served as an outstanding volunteer for the United Way, a United Way funded program and throughout the community.

Thatcher was a former United Way campaign co-chair and is a yearly campaign volunteer. He serves on the board of the Liberty Center of Sandusky County, is a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, a member of the Fremont Lions Club and an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church. In addition, Thatcher recently volunteered as a celebrity dancer for the Sandusky County Stars Dancing for CASA fundraiser.

“This organization does so much for the community, I am honored to receive the award,” Thatcher said at the podium.

Organizations awarded for their efforts were Green Bay Packaging for the Extra Mile Award and Fremont Middle School for the Outstanding School Employee Campaign Award and Employee Achievement Award. Also receiving the Employee Achievement Award were the C&W Auto Supply Company, Goodwill Industries and Fremont Logistics.

Winners honored with the Corporate Award of Excellence award included Warner Mechanical Corporation, Mosser Group/WMOG, Croghan Colonial Bank and Whirlpool Corporation – Clyde Division.

Green Bay Packaging Employees Sandra Clark, Michael Flores, Nancy Lipstraw, DaLeen Markel and Joan Wizgird received the Helping Hand 2012 Campaign Award for going above and beyond to promote their employer’s campaign.

Executive Director, Abby Slemmer, said the organization’s 2012 campaign raised more than $622,000.00 for its funded programs.

“While this is less than our goal, the funded programs will actually be allocated more funds this year,” stated Slemmer.

 

 

Robertsons Named 2012 United Way Campaign Chiars

(FREMONT, OH) -  Croghan Colonial Bank President and CEO, Rick Robertson, and wife, Debbie, have been named the United Way of Sandusky County 2012 Campaign Chairs.

Sandusky County residents since 2010, Rick and Debbie have taken an active and hands-on role as co-chairs to the 2012 campaign as they assume responsibility for guiding the fundraising, volunteering and awareness efforts of the United Way.  As a team, the Robertsons will lead the upcoming campaign toward the $825,000.00 goal which will benefit 32 local programs as well as the initiatives of the United Way of Sandusky County

Proud Sandusky County residents, the Robertsons have been active volunteers through the Fremont Rotary Club, Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center Development Committee and Tiffin University School of Business Advisory Council.

“We’re thrilled to have Rick and Debbie leading the campaign,” said Abby Slemmer, Executive Director of United Way of Sandusky County.  “Their passion and strong sense of commitment will serve our community well,” she added.

United Way maintains an active role throughout the community to “help you help your neighbors” in Sandusky County.  They currently support 32 programs through 23 agencies which include helping families in severe financial crisis, supporting Sandusky County residents living with cancer and promoting the success of youth throughout the county.

The 2012 campaign will kick off with a breakfast celebration on September 27 at the Fremont Country Club.  All community members are invited to attend, tickets must be purchased by Friday, September 21.

Terra State Community College Kicks Off United Way Pacesetter Campaign

United Way Honors Sandusky County High School Seniors for Volunteerism

High school seniors around Sandusky County were recognized recently by the United Way of Sandusky County for their hard work and dedication to volunteerism.  The Senior Volunteer Award and a cash award of $100.00 were presented to one graduating senior from each Sandusky County high school at their school’s awards ceremony.

Each student was nominated by their school leadership based on volunteer activities in both the school and community.  These students have recorded thousands of volunteer hours through organizations and events such as school organized clubs, coaching/mentoring youth, food drives, blood drives, various church activities and missions.
